Auction House
The Stanley Gibbons Auction House saw its first lot go under the hammer in 1901 and over 100 years later, it has a growing directory of bidders from across the world. The Auction Room is located within the Stanley Gibbons premises on the Strand but a large number of bids now occur online thanks to the company’s custom bidding platform. There are regularly scheduled general sales throughout the year with specially curated Signature Auctions featuring a lifetime’s work of some of the world’s most detail-oriented collectors.
Thanks to the increase in global interest online, preview events are hosted around the world — with Chicago and New York both hosting successful events. This has led to an increase in competition for lots. A complete sheet of Chinese Monkey Stamps went under the hammer in 2015, selling for a then in-house auction record of £109,250.
